Michael Caine will step in to replace Nicolas Hamilton for the final two rounds of the BTCC season. The arrival of Caine means that Motorbase will continue to field a three-car lineup of Ford Focuses for the final six races of 2019 and can fulfil their obligation to run three cars for the season without risking the loss of their TBL.

Caine has a long-standing history with Motorbase after making his BTCC debut with the team, then known as Airwaves Racing for a six-race stint back in 2011. Caine finished 10th in his maiden BTCC race at Rockingham before going on to win the 2012 British GT Championship in a Porsche 997 GT3-R run by Motorbase.

Caine’s Ford Focus RS will run with support from Pro Alloy, and Silverstone will mark his first appearance in the BTCC since race three at Rockingham in 2018 in a Team HARD Volkswagen CC. In accordance with the BTCC’s regulations, Caine will carry an additional 45kg into Saturday’s qualifying session and race one on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of his BTCC return, Caine said “Pro Alloy and Stace have saved the day. When there was a seat come up with Motorbase to drive a touring car I was always going to be throwing my name in the hat. I didn’t get to finish the season last year, so it’s good to have this chance to come back and finish the job with Motorbase.”

Michael Caine will take to Silverstone on Saturday for the first of two practice sessions before the afternoon’s qualifying.
