Colin Turkington became only the fourth driver in BSCC/BTCC history to reach 50 race wins at Oulton Park on Sunday, joining Andy Rouse, Jason Plato and Matt Neal in the exclusive club.

Making his BTCC debut with Team Atomic Kitten MG in 2002, Turkington’s first race victory came a year later with MG & Sport Racing at Brands Hatch Indy. His three BTCC championships came in 2009, 2014 and 2018 and post-Oulton Park he sits 1st in the championship standings with a 33 point gap to 2nd.

Speaking after reaching the milestone, Turkington said

“I’m ultra happy with the weekend and it was beyond my expectations to get pole, never mind take two wins – and capping off 50 career victories makes it a special day,” he said. “Scoring pole certainly helped as it’s easier to run in clean air at the front but you never know how quick the others will be. It wasn’t something I set as a target but its great moment for me, but also for the people around me as I can only win because a team like WSR give me the car to win with”

41 of Turkington’s 50 race wins have come with West Surrey Racing with the remainder coming in spells with VX Racing in 2005 and Team BMR in 2015 and 2016.

With three BTCC titles under his belt, Turkington is in the driving seat to secure title number four at the halfway point of the season. Should he do so, he would equal Andy Rouse on four BSCC/BTCC titles and become the equal most successful driver in series history.
