BMW entered the 2019 DTM season as one of two manufacturer teams in the series, running six cars alongside fellow German manufacturer Audi who are running eight including two customer entries. In their statement, BMW emphasised the importance of further internationalisation of the DTM, a feature which Audi has also stressed the importance of.
BMW Group Motorsport director Jens Marquardt said
“With the introduction of the new Class 1 regulation, the new turbo engine, a new manufacturer and important steps towards internationalisation, the DTM has embarked on a promising journey. Now it is important to keep going. We believe in the series and will fully support the DTM in further expanding its international presence.”
BMW used the same statement to annoucne their withdrawal from the World Endurance Championship.
The 2019 DTM season continues at Misano in Italy on the weekend of June 7th.
