DTM newcomers R-Motorsport have been given permission to complete their 2019 testing program in-season. Whilst series rivals Audi and BMW debuted their 2019 challengers before the end of 2018, the newly-built Aston Martin Vantage DTM didn’t hit the track until March in it’s Jerez shakedown.
R-Motorsport had previously sought permission to test
The late start meant that R-Motorsport had six days less testing than Audi and BMW before the start of last week’s official pre-season test at the Lausitzring. Whilst Audi dominated, the four Aston Martins were found near the bottom of the timesheets as rookie Jake Dennis set the squad’s fastest time.
When the test will take place is still unclear, however Kamelger stated that it wouldn’t be immediately after the season-opener at Hockenheim.
The 2019 DTM season will kick off on the weekend of May 4th/5th at the traditional season opener in Hockenheim.
