Back! After a Long Few Months Away… is back! It’s been a long few months in which I’ve undergone some seismic life changes but I can now safely say that I will be back writing regularly about motorsport again.
Midway through the season seems an odd place to start writing again but I’m eager to get back into the groove of things and to start covering some of my favourite touring car series’ on a regular basis. There’s already been some fantastic action in the opening exchanges of the 2017 seasons, and with the F1, BTCC and VASC Championships finely poised at the head of the table we’re heading into what looks to be a fantastic second half of the year.
Even more exciting is the fact that I’ll be heading to Australia for the Enduros in September! It’s been a dream of mine for many years to head to Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast 600 and I can’t wait until I get to Melbourne in September for the first race of the epic triple header. The fight between DJR Team Penske and Red Bull HRT is developing into a fantastic rivalry between two great, powerhouse teams of the series and I can see it going right down to the wire in Newcastle in November, where I will also be!
With Gordon Shedden leading the way in the BTCC, closely followed by the Team BMW pair of Collard and Turkington with the Subaru of Sutton close behind the second half of the 2017 BTCC season is just as unpredictable as the seasons which have come before it. As the series fluctuates between front and rear wheel drive circuits for the rest of the season I expect the pendulum to swing from Honda, to BMW and Subaru and back to Honda again frequently for the rest of the year.
F1 has been a breath of fresh air this season with the real resurgence of Ferrari. A straight fight between Vettel, Hamilton, Ferrari and Mercedes will no doubt eventually be influenced by teammates Raikkonen and Bottas, as I feel it’s only a matter of time before Ferrari and Mercedes throw all their weight behind the two title challengers. Though it must be said, I expect Ferrari to back Vettel before Mercedes back Hamilton.
The coming posts will feature midterm roundups of all the series’s covered on thehairpincorner, plus some exciting interviews with some of this year’s stars from the BTCC!
It’s good to be back!
