A heavily disturbed Friday practice provided us little insight into the pecking order at Suzuka this weekend, it would be safe to assume that it won’t be a Red Bull liveried car on pole position come Sunday afternoon. That is, unless it rains of course. Poor weather at Suzuka could throw up one of the most exciting races of the season, and if the form of Sainz and Kvyat on Friday is anything to go by, then Mercedes could find themselves fighting for the podium once again if the rain falls on Sunday.
The steps forward Ferrari have taken since the summer break will no doubt be thrust under intense scrutiny here in Japan, more so than in Singapore last weekend with Williams expected to return to front the battle to be best of rest could prove an interesting sideshow to the Hamilton vs Rosberg race at the front. In normal conditions, it’s hard to see anyone but Mercedes taking victory at Suzuka. With Hamilton storming to victory this time last year, this could be the weekend where natural order is restored in F1.
Without any meaningful Friday practice times to go by, we’ve taken the bold step of predicting the Suzuka grid. Take at look at what we think could happen and let us know if you agree in the comments below.
