In one of the most prestigious races of the season, Whincup and Dumbrell have themselves the best possible chance of securing their Sandown hat-trick and the first Holden pole position since Darwin. Speaking after the race, Whincup said “It was a tough battle, we don’t have the quickest car out there but we maximised it. My first pole for a long time, I’m pretty happy.”
The sister Triple Eight Holden of Craig Lowndes will start from the penultimate row of the grid, after incurring a penalty after contact with Jack Perkins during the race, damaging his hopes of a record equaling 5th Sandown 500 victory.
The 2015 Wilson Security Sandown 500 kicks off at 13:25 local time and we’ll be back with more analysis and reports after the race.
